2022 Update:

3/19/22: This map is very far out-of-date. I realize that there are laws and loopholes that make saying yes or no with a straight face, sans-wink is a tough thing to do. I want to respect breweries, but that makes complete data very difficult.

I am part of a private FB group called New England Brew Dogs on Facebook for a good, dog-friendly brewery list. It’s the most current I can find, and there is a very good following there to help with the upkeep.

It’s hard to answer the question: If I had a brewery, would I allow dogs? It pains me to say no, or only outside in a separate zone (space permitting). It makes me feel really bad. Hypocritical really. But CT does not have laws that state a dog can be inside a brewery. There’s a bunch of gaps, but nothing that would make me feel safe as a business owner to allow them. That kills me inside, so I want to change it.

This year I plan to try and fix the laws that make a simple yes or no so scary. It’s frustrating to be in limbo, and it’s hard to predict how a law (or lack of one) will be interpreted from place to place. I feel that if we can clean up the statutes in section 22 of the CT state laws, it will help a brewery label themselves dog friendly or not, without worry of reprimand.

And then I’m going to have the best list ever.

Sit. Stay. Good beer.

Nariki (Kiki) in Relic, Plainville, CT.

My husband Scott and I love going to breweries, and I love♥ seeing dogs at breweries. Since we need to keep our senior mutt Kiki active (but not too active), bringing her to the brewery is perfect for all of us. She loves the attention, and people are very respectful to her.

There are many, many pet friendly breweries out there, but I had trouble finding a comprehensive list of dog-friendly breweries. I finally decided to make a map of breweries where I can bring Kiki, my senior mutt (circa 2000). She is awesome, but she can’t really handle long walks or mountain hikes anymore. Below is my comprehensive map of breweries across the country that allow dogs!

Do you know of a brewery that is dog-friendly? Help me keep this map up-to-date. Please add your additions or corrections in the comments below… and thanks!

(Note: breweries in red do not allow pets; breweries in green allow pets)

Here are some general rules to keep in mind:

  • Assume dogs must stay on outdoor patios unless you know for sure otherwise.
Rainy days could be a drag, so plan accordingly. Many places do allow dogs indoors… the map will be updated to indicate places that allow dogs indoors eventually.
  • It’s best to call ahead and confirm it’s okay.
Sometimes rules change. After having a fun day with Kiki at Hanging Hills in Hartford, the following weekend, the brewtenders sadly told us that they cannot allow dogs inside any longer. I also noticed when building the list that some places only allow dogs at certain times or days. Particularly if you’re traveling a long way with your pet, call ahead to make sure the brewery is really pet friendly and what their guidelines are.
  • Bring a leash.
Assume that you will need to leash your dog. In my research, I found a handful of places (typically farm/breweries) that had areas where a dog could be unleashed.
  • Clean up after your dog.
Even the best dogs can have accidents (Kiki is almost 16… believe me, I know!). Really, just be cool and don’t ruin it for the rest of us 🙂
  • Don’t bring a crazy dog!
Make sure that you and your dog can follow some basic rules of socialization. Don’t bring a barky dog; make sure your dog is friendly to people, kids, and other pets; etc, etc.

Cheers!

Lost Nation in VT – were told not dog friendly, but some have said they’ve brought their pet there. We didn’t attempt.
